Glam Metal Characteristics

Musically, glam metal uses traditional hard rock and heavy metal songs, incorporating elements of punk rock,[5] while adding pop-influenced catchy hooks and guitar riffs.[4][6] Like other heavy metal songs of the 1980s, they often feature shred guitar solos.[7] Aesthetically glam metal draws heavily on the glam rock or glitter rock of the 1970s,[8] often with very long backcombed hair, use of make-up, gaudy clothing and accessories (chiefly consisting of tight denim or leather jeans, spandex, and headbands).[9] The visual aspects of glam metal appealed to music television producers, particularly MTV, whose establishment coincided with the rise of the genre.[10] Glam metal performers became infamous for their debauched lifestyles of late-night parties, which were widely covered in the tabloid press

Poison Biography

Formerly known as Paris, Poison were formed in 1984 by singer Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall, and drummer Rikki Rockett. After traveling from Harrisburg, PA, to Los Angeles, CA, the band added guitarist C.C. Deville to its lineup. Poison were signed to Enigma Records in 1986, where they released their first album, Look What the Cat Dragged In. The record, spawning the Top Ten hits "I Want Action," "Talk Dirty to Me," and "I Won't Forget You," was a surprise success, selling two-million copies within a year following its release. While the band was already quite popular by the end of 1987, 1988's Open Up & Say...Ahhh! was its commercial breakthrough, due to the massive hits "Fallen Angel," "Nothin' But a Good Time," and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." After a prosperous tour with David Lee Roth, the group returned to the studio to record Flesh and Blood in 1990. The album, which included the upbeat "Unskinny Bop" and the sentimental "Something to Believe In," was another major success. The dynamic tour supporting the record brought on the release of Swallow This Live, a double-disc set that included live versions of their biggest hits, along with four new studio tracks. The band was secretly falling apart, as an infamous appearance on MTV showed Deville perform nearly half of "Talk Dirty to Me" with his guitar unplugged. The band broke into a brawl backstage after the disastrous performance.Shortly after the release of Swallow This Live, Poison fired Deville due to his increasing addiction to drugs and alcohol. His replacement, Richie Kotzen, made his commercial debut with the band on the 1993 Native Tongue album, which, despite some strong reviews and a hit single, "Stand," was a commercial disappointment. Kotzen was fired during the subsequent tour, and Blues Saraceno became Poison's third guitarist. The band recorded its fifth studio album, Crack a Smile, for release in 1996, but the record was shelved and replaced with the Greatest Hits: 1986-1996 disc. Toward the end of 1996, Saraceno left and Deville returned to the band, which eventually resulted in a successful reunion tour in the summer of 1999; the Crack a Smile sessions were finally released the following spring, soon followed by the mostly live Power to the People. Another tour was cut short by an accident that left Dall with serious back surgery and at least a six-month break from the band.



Pretty Boy Floyd Biography

The origins of the band can be traced back to a group named Doll in Hollywood, California. It reportedly went through several different line-ups, all of them featuring lead vocalist Kerry Doll. At least one line-up featured then future Pretty Boy Floyd guitarist Ariel Stiles.
Doll recorded a demo tape in 1986. Several songs on it were later rerecorded by Pretty Boy Floyd.
When Doll broke up, former Doll guitarist Ariel Stiles then formed Pretty Boy Floyd with vocalist Steve Summers, bassist Vinnie Chas, and drummer Kari Kane. Soon Aeriel Stiles was replaced by former Jett Blakk guitarist Kristy Majors. The band's name was reportedly given to them by producer Kim Fowley with whom the band were working at the time.

After vigorously rehearsing and playing lots of shows in the San Fernando Valley, Pretty Boy Floyd got their big break at MCA Records. Their debut album named Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz was released in 1989 and produced by producer Howard Benson. The recording sessions were plagued with problems from the start, technically and manually but was finally released after some regret from their record company. It managed to get into the United States Billboard charts. The majority of the material featured on the debut album was written by former guitarist Aeriel Stiles, Kristy Majors wrote the song "Rock and Roll (Is Gonna Set the Night on Fire)". The LP was not well received by the LA music scene or by the industry.
Two singles, and accompanying promotional videos were released from the album; "Rock and Roll (Is Gonna Set the Night on Fire)" and "I Wanna Be With You", which gained rotation on MTV. They were also having success in Europe at the time, by being the cover subject of hard rock magazine Kerrang! on December 16, 1989.
Pretty Boy Floyd became embroiled in a dispute over the copyright of their band name, with a Canadian band also called Pretty Boy Floyd. The Canadian group released their debut Bullets and Lipstick the same year, but after a court case were forced to change their name to Tommi Floyd (the name of their frontman).
Their music featured on two movie soundtracks, first the demo version of "48 Hours" was included on the 1989 The Karate Kid, Part III film. Two years later the previously unreleased "Slam Dunk" was released on the Ellen Barkin movie Switch soundtrack. However, by that time MCA Records had dropped the band.
They recorded a second album, Tonight Belongs To The Young, but it was only released years later.

Crashdiet Biography

CRASHDÏET was born in a new millennium where the rock n roll scene had almost died out. No looks, no tricks, no flash and balls and definitely a lack of big songs. Inspired by bands like [artist=]SKID ROW[/artist], [artist=]GUNS ´N ROSES[/artist], [artist=]KISS[/artist], [artist=]W.A.S.P[/artist] and [artist=]GG ALLIN[/artist], CRASHDÏET brought back the big shows, the rough-edge sleaze anthems and the rawness of an unpredictable and dangerous band. After a few changes, the band found it´s “classic” lineup: DAVE LEPARD , PETER LONDON, MARTIN SWEET and ERIC YOUNG. the rise Discovered by Universal Music in 2004 after making a lot of noise down in the gutter of the SWEDISH underground, CRASHDÏET became the first sleaze rock act to be signed directly to a major company in over 10 years. The debut album “Rest in Sleaze” entered the Swedish national album chart at position No. 12! The singles and videos like [lyrics=]Riot in everyone[/lyrics], [lyrics=]Breakin the Chainz[/lyrics] and [lyrics=]It´s a Miracle[/lyrics] were played frequently on radio and television. the end CRASHDÏET embarked on a Swedish tour in the fall of 2005 to support the new album. They were on the verge of the big breakthrough when tragedy struck on January 20th of 2006. DAVE LEPARD was found dead in his apartment after committing suicide. The surviving members were devastated and decided to break up the band shortly after, with the statement: "As a band members, but most of all as a person, we will miss him for all eternity. Dave was nothing but a genius and a very special person. CRASHDIET will definitely not continue as a band. CRASHDIET consisted of four people and now one has left us." The story of CRASHDÏET was over. the tribute On demand of the fans, the decision was made to open up a forum as a tribute to Dave. The response was way over all expectations. Thousands and thousands of fans worldwide gave their deepest sympathy for the tragic loss. PETER, ERIC and MARTIN did a tough and emotional appearance on a tribute gig to Mr LEPARD on February 11th 2006, giving fans and friends a chance to say their last goodbyes. a new project Months passed and in mid 2006 the surviving member got together for the first time since the tribute show to discuss the future. For the passion of music and performing, the three ex diet members decided to start up a new band and put out ads for a singer. At this point there was no talk what so ever about what to name the band. The band traveled worldwide in search of a lead singer, still broken but with the same dream as before. In October of 2006 the band stated: “We´re actually pretty much convinced that we should keep the name after numerous sleepless nights and after approval from the Lepard family. We feel that we want to carry on the CRASHDÏET legacy, which will keep Daves spirit alive for a long long time. It would be a shame NOT to spread the message across the whole world and let them know what real music should sound like!”
